He later established a pub of the same name in Lanzarote where he resided before his untimely death last week. Paddy was well-known in the hospitality trade and also previously worked in Lanigan’s Bar in Kilkenny.

“To the family and friends of Patrick Paddy Hogan. Please accept our deepest condolences from everyone Lanigans Bar, Kilkenny,” a spokesperson for the bar posted to social media.

“Paddy was a bright light on our team many years ago. He was a wonderful character, co-worker but more importantly a cherished friend.

“He did not just do a job at Lanigans, he made our team a family. His work ethic was remarkable but his kindness and wit is what truly left a lasting impression on our hearts,” they continued.

“Paddy, thank you for sharing good times with us. We will speak of you often and with so many memories.

“Our hearts are broken and Paddy will always be woven into the fabric of our company,” the post added.

“Rest in peace our dear friend.”

The Tullaroan native’s RIP notice states that “Paddy will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his heartbroken daughter Rachel and his son Thomas, his son-in-law Denver and his daughter-in-law Ciara. Adored Grandad to Theo, Romy and Sady. Cherished brother to Philip, Joan and Tommy, Mary (mother of his children), brother-in-law Eamon and sister-in-law Ann. Paddy will be greatly missed by his nephews, niece, grandnephews, grandniece, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends in Ireland and Lanzarote.”

Further tributes to the popular publican have been flooding in since his padding on July 7.

O’Neill’s Pub in Castledermot, Co Kildare, issued a stunning tribute: “To Rachel, Thomas and all the extended Hogan family we are so saddened to hear of the sudden and heartbreaking loss of your dear dad.

“Paddy was one of life’s great characters and an exceptional publican, so welcoming and kind with a smile that would light up any room that he walked into.

“We have so many great memories of Mick, Kathleen & Paddy in Tullow, Castledermot and then onto Lanzarote, where it’s safe to say Paddy single handedly put Lanzarote on the tourist map! Whether it was hurling, horse racing, farming, politics or the pub trade, Paddy could talk all day…you couldn’t be in better company and there was nowhere you’d rather be.

“Not only that but Paddy was a great friend to so so many, he would never see anyone stuck and had a heart of gold. The tributes here are a testament to his kindness and generosity.

“It’s closing time now Paddy, you have put in an outstanding shift and it’s time for you to rest peacefully in the arms of the heavenly angels and all your loved ones gone before.

“His likes will certainly not be seen again.

“Rest in peace Paddy, from all your friends at O’Neills Pub, Castledermot.”

Another person wrote: “Our deepest sympathies to Rachel, Thomas, Phil and all the Hogan family on the sad passing of Paddy. And all his friends in Lanzarote. Old town won’t be the same without our dear Paddy, he loved showing all the family pictures of his beautiful grandchildren, he was so proud, will miss his big smile and warm hug when you arrive back to see him. May you rest in eternal peace, Paddy.”

Paddy’s funeral arrangements have not yet been made public.
