Tributes have been paid to a man from Bagenalstown, described as a ‘gentle soul’ on RIP.ie

Tributes have been paid to a much loved Carlow man, Seamus Burke of Oak Grove, Royal Oak Road, Bagenalstown, and formerly of Gowran, Co. Kilkenny.

Seamus was described as a much loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, with those who knew him remembering his sense of adventure, zest for life and friendly nature.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Mai and his sister Kathleen.

Seamus will be sadly missed by his daughters Shona and Ciara, son Nigel, brothers John and Ger, grandchildren Ella and Mia, son in law Mark, daughter in law Alexandra, sister in law Nora, as well as his nieces, nephews and wide circle of friends, relatives and neighbours.

A keen traveller, Seamus enjoyed many adventures around the world with his wife Mai and their family throughout his life.

Seamus had a great love of hurling and also enjoyed golfing, outdoor river and sea swimming, as well as taking trips around the country to visit family and attend family occasions.

However, one of his greatest passions was cycling, with Seamus regularly taking to his bike to enjoy the Carlow and Kilkenny countryside.

He was known for stopping along the way for a chat with people he met, with his family remembering the many stories, laughter and adventures he shared with others throughout his life.

Tributes have been paid on RIP.ie following his death, with one mourner describing Seamus as "such a great character, full of fun and mischief" and "truly one of the good guys."

Another person wrote, "I'm really saddened to hear of the passing of Seamus. A pure gentleman, many a great chat we used to have."

His previous employer, Thompsons, also paid tribute to Seamus, remembering his many years with the company.

"Seamus was an integral part of Thompsons for many years, always there in the drawing office with advice to share and an answer to any question," the company said.

"Seamus, you’ll be greatly missed by all of us at Thompsons. Thank you for the years of knowledge, stories, chats and laughter. You were one of a kind, and we’ll always remember you fondly."

Another mourner shared a personal tribute, writing, "Sincere condolences to the Burke Family. I will miss our dinner time chats in Doyle’s Restaurant. RIP Seamus."

His family said he leaves behind "cherished stories of fun, laughter and adventures" which they will continue to share for many years to come.

Removal will take place on Saturday morning, arriving at St Andrew's Church, Bagenalstown, for Funeral Mass at 11am, followed by burial in the Cemetery of the Assumption.

May Seamus rest in peace.
