Carlow and Leinster athletes in the 2018 Special Olympics have been honoured for their achievements in Town Hall with many going on to the Special Olympics Summer Games in Abu Dhabi next year.
Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, Brian O'Donoghue, said: "A really special night in the Town Hall in Carlow on Monday night.
"Honouring Carlow and Leinster athletes in the Special Olympics. A wonderfully uplifting and heart warming event."
Cllr Fintan Phelan added: "Congratulations to all the Special Olympic Athletes that received awards following their great performance at the Irish Games in June."
While Senator Jennifer Murnane O'Connor said: "We celebrated with everyone, Bishop Denis Nulty, myself and Carlow Mayor Ken Murnane at the Town Hall Theatre Centaur Street and we really enjoyed the enthusiasm of everyone including Jamie Murnane my nephew who performed so well for Carlow and many of these athletes will be going on to represent team Ireland in the Special Olympics Summer Games in Abu Dhabi in 2019.
"We have a marvellous amount of athletes and their families and friends and the coaching staff and the volunteers who are a rock of support for the team. Well done to all of you, terrific achievement."
