Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin has also promised increases to the Renters Tax Credit in the next Budget

"Fianna Fáil is the party of action on housing", according to party leader Micháel Martin.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin insisted that a "new era of home building is under way", during his Leaders Speech at the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis this weekend.

Mr Martin told attendees that addressing the housing crisis would take time, but that a "new era of social housing has begun".

He also promised an expansion of dedicated student accommodation, a "much stronger action to return homes to the rental market", and said an increase to the €750 Renters Tax Credit would be included in this year's Budget.

Speaking on RTÉ's The Week In Politics, the Tánaiste doubled down on this promise, reaffirming that there would be an increase in the tax credit for renters in Budget 2025 in October.

"Supply is key here, we've got to build more homes. The bottom line is the only way to deal with these issues is through more housing supply."

Mr Martin also hit out at the opposition for opposing the Planning Bill that is currently making its way through the Oireachtas, calling it "essential".
