100% of votes at Tullow Credit Union choose industrial action

Members of Tullow Credit Union will participate in industrial action should the board not engage in “meaningful dialogues”
100% of the staff at Tullow Credit Union, who are members of the Financial Services Union (FSU), have voted to take industrial action over trade union recognition and other issues.
The FSU represents the majority of staff at Tullow Credit Union in Carlow, and they are seeking recognition of that, along with the right to be represented collectively when it comes to negotiations on pay, terms, and conditions of employment.
The Board of Tullow Credit Union has “refused to recognise the union for collective bargaining purposes,” according to the Irish Independent.
That is despite “repeated approaches” by the FSU.
“The message to the Board of Tullow Credit Union could not be clearer,” James Callaghan, an FSU official, said.
He highlighted that the 100% vote for strike action by members was an “overwhelming mandate.”
“Nobody wants this dispute to escalate. The FSU has repeatedly offered to meet with the board and establish a constructive relationship that works for both the credit union and its employees. That offer remains on the table,” he added.
He concluded that the board should “listen to its staff” and respect what they want.
James said that there is still an opportunity for the dispute to be resolved through “meaningful dialogue,” and has urged the board to meet with the FSU to negotiate an agreement.
