Carlow All Time Greats: Profile #13 Saoirse Ronan
Saoirse Ronan is an Irish actress who spent part of her childhood in Carlow. She is the recipient of several awards for her work, including a Golden Globe Award, and has been nominated for three Academy Awards and four British Academy Film Awards.
Her father Paul Ronan and his wife Monica had Saoirse, who was to be their only child, in April, 1994 in New York.
They moved back to Dublin when Saoirse was three-years-old, resettling in Carlow where she attended Ardattin National School before her family again relocated to Howth in north Dublin.
Saoirse made her acting debut with the Irish medical drama series The Clinic in 2003. Her major breakthrough came when she played the part of a precocious teenager in Atonement in 2007 alongside Keira Knightley.
