Tullow local election candidate launches autism community group in Carlow

Mr. Cahill said “Last week's front page in our local newspaper told a story that I have heard all too often. Children with autism not having appropriate access to school places. To say that our children are being let down by the state is an understatement. The knock on effects that this has on families, parents and siblings is tremendously damaging for all involved ”

Mr. Cahill added “In response to this, I have set up a community group called Tullow Autism Community, this group will act as a meeting point for parents, families and allies of the neurodiverse community from Tullow and surrounding areas. My hope is that we can pool our resources and experience, and make information readily available to families. In the coming weeks and months I will organise some practical workshops, talks and social events. All details will be available through my social media”

Furthermore “I would like to call on the government to address the shortfall of appropriate ASD school places across Carlow as its having a detrimental effect on the lives of the families who are experiencing difficulties in attaining an appropriate placement”
