Carlow College’s BA (Hons) in Psychology (PC414) has officially been accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).

Welcoming the news, Dr Candice Condon, Programme Director, commented: “This accreditation is a major milestone for the BA (Hons) in Psychology, which is now in its second year. It also demonstrates that the programme meets the highest international standards for professional education and training in Psychology”.

The BA (Hons) in Psychology is a three-year, Level 8 honours degree programme, which provides students with a broad, interdisciplinary knowledge of psychology and a deep understanding across the core pillars of undergraduate training.

Accreditation by the PSI means that students who graduate with a BA (Hons) in Psychology through Carlow College, and who achieve a minimum of second-class honours, will be eligible for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland. It also means that they may progress directly to specialised postgraduate study in their preferred area of psychology, without the need to complete a conversion programme.

Carlow College has offered psychology through its BA (Hons) in Arts & Humanities for a number of years, however launched the specialised BA (Hons) in Psychology in September 2021 with its first intake.

Carlow College Registrar and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr Thomas McGrath, said “it is a proud day for Carlow College with the accreditation of our psychology degree by PSI demonstrating the exceptional quality of education and training provided in Carlow College”.

Late applications are still being accepted for undergraduate programmes commencing in September 2024. CAO late applications close on 1st May 2024. To find out more, visit carlowcollege.ie/pc414
