Current Carlow Parish Priest Father Yanbo was recently granted his Irish citizenship in a ceremony in Killarney.
Father Yanbo had previously completed his theological training at St Patrick's College Maynooth before coming to Carlow.
On a pilgrimage in Medjugorje Fr Tommy Dillon fellow parishioners gave him a Carlow jersey and "made him an honoury Carlow Man".
The social media post by the Carlow Cathedral Parish Facebook page reads:
"CONGRATULATIONS FR YANBO
Massive Congratulations to our newest Irish Citizen, our own Fr Yanbo Chen.
Fr Yanbo was granted his Irish Citizenship in a ceremony this morning in Killarney.
He is now a very happy, proud Irishman.
While on Pilgrimage in Medjugorje last week, Fr Tommy Dillon and our Parishioners made him an honoury Carlow Man, and presented him with the Carlow Jersey. He was thrilled and we were excited to share the pictures with you all, but decided to hold off until today.
We are so happy for Fr Yanbo and he is blessed to be now considered a true Irishman."
