Planning permission has been received by Carlow County Council for a huge solar farm that spans across 132 hectares of land across Carlow.
The planning permission is sought by Lightsource Renewable Energy Ireland Ltd and was received on the 11th of July 2024.

The planning permission sought is for a 10 year planning permission on the lands including Straboe in County Laois and Killerig, County Carlow.
The development, if planning permission is granted, will consist of:
The development of a Solar PV Energy Development with associated Battery Energy Storage System Compound with a total site area of 132.28 hectares to include solar panels mounted on steel supported structures, associated cabling, and ducting, inverters, transformer, permanent storage containers, monitoring houses, composting toilet, BESS customer substation, battery blocks, BESS inverters and PCS, BESS interface cabinets, backup generator, temporary construction compounds, tracks, boundary security, fencing, and security gates, CCTV, landscaping and ancillary works.
The planning permission has a decision due date set for the 4th of September 2024 and updates of that decision will be made when available.
