Local Carlow School has conditional planning permission for demolition and extension of buildings

Local Carlow school, Bennekerry National School, has had their planning application conditionally approved for the demolition of one school building and extension of another part of the school.

The planning application was made by The Board of Management of Bennekerry National School and was received by the Carlow County Council on the 28th March 2024.

The application was given conditional approval on the 13th of August 2024.

The list of works that are contained in the planning application include:

The demolition of existing disused single storey standalone building with a total floor area of 417 sqm.

The provision of a single storey extension to the front/side of existing two storey school building, existing floor area of 2,267 sqm.

Consisting of 2 SET rooms and 2 classroom special education unit.

With an additional 16 car parking spaces and set down area.

Secure external soft play area, sensory garden, additional hard surface play area.

Relocation of vehicular entrance in roadside boundary wall, new access roadways to car parking and emergency vehicles, and all ancillary site development works at Bennekerry National School.

There are 18 conditions, in relation to traffic safety measures, protecting the amenities of neighbouring properties, to checking the development when it is completed,  to proper servicing of development to prevent flooding on public road, and environmental and sustainability measures.
