Local Carlow Fianna Fáil TD Jennifer Murnane O'Connor has urged more than 17,000 households inCarlowto sign up to a new text alerts service by Uisce Éireann providing updates on water supply works.
Uisce Éireann launched the new free-to-use text alerts service this week providing water supply updates to more than 1.6 million households nationally.
The text alert system will be the first time that all of Uisce Éireann’s customers will be able to sign up and receive notifications for their area. The service provides customers with details of supply interruptions that are expected to last longer than four hours. It will also include details on planned and unplanned outages and boil water notices should they be needed to protect public health.
Deputy Murnane O'Connor said: "I would encourage all Uisce Éireann customers to sign up to receive water supply notifications for their area. Previously only vulnerable customers and businesses customers were able to avail of the service but now all customers can sign up for free viawater.ie.
"I'm delighted to see the extension of this service. Having prior notice of planned water supply outages will allow people to make plans when they know there will be a supply issue. Otherwise disruption to the water supply can cause people huge issues."
