Carlow County Council are seeking public consultation in relation to the draft noise action plan from 2024-2028.

The draft noise action plan aims to strategically manage environmental noise from transport systems.

From the Carlow County Council:

Carlow County Council being the designated Action Planning Authority under the above regulations, have prepared a Draft Noise Action Plan 2024 – 2028, supported by Noise Consultants Limited, for sections of major roads in County Carlow, that experience traffic volumes greater than 3,000,000 vehicle passages per annum.

The draft Noise Action Plan has been prepared in accordance with the Regulations and is aimed at the strategic long-term management of environmental noise from transport systems (major roads, rail and airports as defined by the regulations). It does not apply to noise from domestic activities, neighbourhood noise, noise at workplaces or noise inside means of transport or due to military activities in military areas.

The Draft Noise Action Plan is accompanied by an Environmental Report, prepared in accordance with the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004 (S.I. 435 of 2004 as amended by S.I. 200 of 2011) for Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening Report, pursuant to Article 6 of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC.

The plan can be viewed by the public till the 26th of November at these locations:

County Buildings, Athy Road, Carlow

Tullow Civic Offices, Link Road

Bagenalstown Civic Offices, Mcgrath Hall
