Gardaí in Carlow as part of National day of action to combat distracted driving and handed out €120 fines and penalty points to 16 drivers across the county.
They were patrolling across to the country trying to discourage phone use while driving.

"16 drivers detected during National Day of action to combat distracted driving. Yesterday as part of a National operation Carlow Roads Policing Unit were patrolling the county roads trying to discourage people from using their mobile phones while driving. Using a mobile phone while driving is dangerous to yourself and other road users. As a result the penalty for those caught is significant. Thankfully the vast majority of motorists obeying the law but there was 16 drivers that were stopped and issued with a fixed charge notice for the offence. That fine is €120 and 3 penalty points. "
