Local school on the Carlow Laois border, St Fiacc's National School, has decision close for planning application for a new astro turf pitch on the school's premises.

The planning application was received on the 20th December 2024 and decision date has been set for the 22nd of February 2025.

The location of the school is St. Fiacc’s National School, Killeshin Road , Graiguecullen, Carlow County Laois.

The details of the planning permission are as follows:

The construction of an astro turf pitch, associated lighting & fencing, and all associated site works.

A submission attached to the planning permission from a local resident of the area has a number of concerns over the potential construction of the pitch, they include:

Traffic and "cars illegally parked and left unattended preventing access and egress to the residence."

There is also a section that states that balls would "traverse our boundary at high velocity, striking the roof, windows, plants and other objects around the property." And that it was also "not safe" to go into the garden during times of matches over "fear of being struck by a wayward ball."

The submission also has an issue with both "litter", "anti-social behaviour" and persons using the facility to "clean dirt and mud from their clothing and footwear outside our residence prior to putting their items in their private vehicles."

The planning decision is set to be made on the 22nd of February 2025 and the decision once made can be found on Carlow Live.
