ALERT: Busy Carlow Town road set for full closure for a period of two weeks

The road closure will begin on Wednesday the 28th of May 2025

Carlow County Council's has announced that a busy road located in Carlow Town will be temporarily under full road closure due to construction of an Active Travel Scheme on the Old Dublin Road in Carlow Town.

The road closure will take place over a period of two weeks, commencing on Wednesday the 28th of May till Wednesday the 11th of June.

"Temporary Road Closure – Old Dublin Road, Carlow Town
Carlow County Council’s Active Travel Dept. are currently constructing an Active Travel Scheme on the Old Dublin Road in Carlow Town.

In order to progress to the next stage of works over the railway line, Carlow County Council will be temporarily closing the Old Dublin Road (R-888), from its junction with Aylesbury Court/Sacred Heart Hospital (L-40501) to its junction with Oak Park Road (L-4014), for a period of 2 weeks from Wednesday 28th May to Wednesday 11th June inclusive.

Alternative routes are available via the R-448 (Green Lane), L-4012 (Railway Road) and the N-80 (Doctor Cullen Road)
Diversionary signage will be in place to assist motorists during this temporary closure

Carlow County Council wishes to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to members of the public who normally use this route and will endeavour to ensure the minimum disruption to motorists and to have the works completed by the appointed time."
