Both locations have been temporarily closed due to water tests that show a high level of bacteria in water.
The Bagenalstown swimming pool is not affected by the temporary closure.
Information from the Carlow County Council reads as follows:
"Carlow County Council regrets to inform you that we have implemented a temporary bathing prohibition notice in the following bathing areas:
- Bagenalstown Swimming Pool bathing area
- Bagenalstown Boat Slip Bathing area
This Bathing Prohibition Notice has been recommended by Public Health Officials, because of failed water quality tests which show high levels of bacteria present in both locations.
Carlow County Council will carry out further tests and investigate the cause of these higher-than-normal levels and will continue to monitor the situation.
Once we have identified the issue and have tests come back clear we will reopen the Bathing Areas.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Further updates will be placed on social media. "
