Street Feast to return to communities across Carlow as neighbours urged to get involved

National event aims to bring Carlow communities together through food and connection

Street Feast to return to communities across Carlow as neighbours urged to get involved

Neighbours across Carlow are being encouraged to pull up a chair, share some food and say hello as Street Feast returns this May.

The popular community initiative will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24, inviting people across the county to host or join local gatherings.

Street Feast, Ireland's national weekend of community lunches and get-togethers, is now in its 16th year and has grown into what organisers describe as "something simple but powerful", offering neighbours a chance to come together and make everyday life feel more connected.

President Catherine Connolly, Patron of Street Feast, said: "As patron, I am delighted to support Street Feast, which brings neighbours together and strengthens communities through the simple act of sharing a meal."

With more people looking for real moments of connection, organisers say the event is more important than ever.

Last year saw an estimated 88,000 people take part, with participation growing strongly and organisers now aiming to increase the number of neighbourhoods involved to 1,200 in 2026.

New research from the Street Feast team found that participants are twice as likely to know their neighbours after taking part, while 75% of hosts said their area felt friendlier afterwards.

Sam Bishop, Co-Founder and CEO of Street Feast, said: "At its heart, Street Feast starts with a simple hello. Even as we stay connected online, many of us still don't know who lives next door.

"Street Feast creates moments that spark real conversations and genuine connections that last long after the day itself," he added.

Hosting a Street Feast is designed to be simple, requiring little more than a place to gather and a willingness to bring people together.

Anyone who registers online can receive a free party pack, including bunting, posters, invitations and a DIY guide, with additional packs available at selected Tesco stores.
