Over 100,000 gallons of water is being saved every day in Bagenalstown after leakage reduction works by Irish Water.

The works in the town are now "substantially complete" and by decommissioning the old leaking water mains, the project has resulted in leakage savings of 460,000 litres of water per or 100,000 gallons.

It has resulted in a drop in water production at the Bagenalstown Water Treatment Plant of nearly 33% and is saving enough water to supply over 900 homes.

Irish Water have said there are some minor outstanding decommissioning and permanent reinstatement works that are programme to be completed in May 2019.
