CARLOW WEATHER: Cloudy and cold over coming days

Unsettled with oftentimes brisk westerly winds. A colder interlude will be followed by somewhat milder weather this weekend.

Today

A mostly dry and bright start this morning. Cloud amounts will increase through the afternoon with patchy rain and drizzle developing later. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

Generally cloudy tonight with patchy rain and drizzle. It will become drier later in the night with some clear spells. Moderate southwesterly winds. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees.

Thursday

Dry in many areas for the first half of the day with some sunny spells and patchy drizzle at times. Cloud will increase from the west later in the afternoon, with outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards across the province by evening. Moderate southwesterly winds will freshen with the arrival of the rain. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees.

Rain will clear the southeast early in the night to dry, cold and clear conditions. Scattered showers of rain, hail or sleet, will move into the northwest and west. The showers will extend further inland later in the night but many parts of the south and east will stay dry. Some snow showers are possible on mountains in Ulster. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

Friday

A cold and bright day with sunny spells and scattered showers of rain or sleet, possibly snow on higher ground. The showers will be most frequent in the north and west. Highest afternoon temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly wind.

Friday night will be cold with clear spells and scattered showers becoming confined to coastal parts of the west and northwest. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees. Light to moderate southwest winds will freshen towards dawn with outbreaks of rain pushing in across Ulster.
