Shane MacGowan died on November 30, 2023, after a number of health battles
Shane MacGowan's widow Victoria Mary Clarke as revealed the legendary Pogues frontman's dying wish after reports emerged he had left €10,000 behind the bar at a pub in Tipperary for his funeral.
MacGowan died on November 30 after a long battle with ill health and was remembered by mourners, including A-list stars Johnny Depp and Nick Cave, at his funeral mass in Nenagh last week.
Mourners danced at the altar as Glen Hansard was joined by the surviving members of the Pogues to play a rousing rendition of Fairytale Of New York in the church.
Following the funeral mass, family and friends moved on to Shane's favourite pub, The Thatched Cottage in Nenagh, to have a meal and celebrate his extraordinary life.
It was reported by the Independent via an old friend of Shane's that the Tipperary native left €10,000 behind the bar and that it was his "last wish."
Now, Shane's widow Victoria Mary Clarke has revealed the Rainy Night In Soho star's actual dying wish for the world and poured cold water on the €10k bar tab claim.
"I just want to say that Shane MacGowan did NOT make a last request to leave 10k behind the bar, his last request was for peace and love in the world. Although we are certain that he would have approved of the beautiful funeral!," she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
