'You have to get the help' - Farmer with bipolar disorder stars in this week's Ear to the Ground

An Irish farmer living with bipolar disorder is set to feature on Ear to the Ground this week.

Sheep farmer Martin Galvin lives in one of Ireland's most breathtaking areas, the picturesque Leenane in Mayo, but for a long time his health challenges overshadowed the beauty of his surroundings.

In this week's episode (Thursday December 18), Ear to the Ground co-presenter Ella McSweeney spends the day with him to discuss the depths of his struggles and occasional peaks, as well as the impact on his family.

He speaks candidly on the show in the hopes of shedding light on the nuances of living with the difficult condition, and reveals his turning point came when his concerned daughter stepped in.

Speaking to McSweeney in a promo clip released by RTÉ, Martin said, "You can't solve this on your own, you have to get the help, and the help is there."

Additionally, co-presenter Maeve Dineen will visit a Mexican woman, Sonia Viridiana, who manages a quaint farm just outside Dunmanway in West Cork, and co-presenter Darragh McCullough will undertake a comprehensive investigation in Carlow on the future of the vital Whitethorn hedgerow species.
