Hozier becomes fourth Irish artist in history to top US Billboard chart

Hozier has become the first Irish artist since Sinead O'Connor, and only the fourth Irish artist ever, to have a No 1 in the US on the Billboard 100 song charts.

Hozier’s Too Sweet went to the top of the charts, after successive jumps up from the No 5 spot it debuted at three weeks ago. The singer's previous closest attempt at the top of the US charts had been in 2014, when his breakthrough hit Take Me to Church reached No 2.

Too Sweet is the first single from his fifth EP, Unheard, which was released on 29 March. The track has also topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK and Ireland.

Sharing his delight at Too Sweet's success on social media, the Wicklow native posted a video on X, telling his followers that he was "taken massively by surprise by it" and that he was "so thrilled" they were enjoying it.

“I’m taken massively by surprise by it, but I just want to say thank you so, so much for your support. I’m so thrilled that you’re enjoying Too Sweet and it means the world to me, so thank you,” he said.
