Controversial Irish language rap group Kneecap have caused a stir after putting 'stolen from Ireland' stickers on items in the British Museum in London.

The Belfast outfit posted pictures on Instagram after their trip to the museum. They said: "Few bits we stuck around the British Museum today - place is huge and full of stolen treasures from other cultures and people."

The stickers were emblazoned with the caption: "Stolen from Ireland by the British Museum" along with Kneecap's logo. Their post added: "Place would be empty only for the theft of everything they 'discovered.'"

The act caused quite the stir online with many of their own followers understandably praising them.

"Well done, lads - great to see this," one said, adding, "I always said that, if you gave back everything in there that wasn’t British, all they’d be left with would be the cafeteria & the gift shop."

Another follower said: "Maybe like other countries we should launch a concerted campaign to repatriate our stolen treasures."
