The penultimate episode in this season of RTÉ Kids series ‘What’s Next?’ airs this week and puts the spotlight on the housing industry as young Irish disruptors investigate the latest innovations that are helping build greener homes.
Alisha Mooney from Meath, Kate Butler from Carlow and Ruben Lawless from Dublin are paired with social media star Adam Beales, actress Demi Isaac Oviawe and comedian MC Fitzpatrick to develop an idea that will impress judge Fionn Ferreira.
Their research sees them connecting with groundbreaking people who are transforming the home industry across Ireland and the UK. Demi is introduced to JP of ‘Big Man Tiny Homes’ (Cork) who is reimagining how we live with efficient, compact living spaces. Adam visits Dr Marin Sawa from Newcastle University, who demonstrates how she can transform wallpaper into eco-friendly electricity and MC meets Alan and Oluchi from Sugarcrete in London, who have a sweet new solution to creating green building materials.

The teams then get to work building their own mind-blowing ideas including a concept that transforms sweat into power, an app that gamifies energy saving, and a project that maximises communal living spaces.
The winner of this episode will make it to next week’s grand finale, where all finalists will compete for the chance to win the title of ‘What’s Next? Series Champion’, winning the golden brainbox and pitching their idea to a ‘soon to be revealed’ mystery millionaire investor.
Co-creator of the show Aisling Gallagher of HopSkip Studios said: “The excitement is building to find out which of our young disruptors will take home the coveted golden brainbox. In this episode of ‘What’s Next?’ we get a firsthand look at some of the most impressive developments in the area of sustainable housing and living. Alisha, Ruben and Kate bring incredible ideas to the table and all that’s left to do now is wait to see who gets through to the final!”
What’s Next? airs on RTÉ2 on Thursday 12th December and is available to watch on RTÉ Player. The series is produced with funding from Coimisiún na Meán and Northern Ireland Screen.
