'Broadband and telephone lines connected,' Tyndall College building nearing completion

Some good news!
The Tyndall College building is nearing completion but there is no definite dates for the opening just yet as the dates are dependent on the continued progress on site.
Work halted on the school in January of last year when the UK-based Carillion Construction - which had sub-contracted the works - went bust.
The Irish company, Sammon, had been sub-contracted by Carillion to carry out the building work on its behalf as part of the Public Private Partnership, but Sammon then went into liquidation in June of 2018.
The debacle saw many local contractors left out of pocket by the collapse of the two companies. The replacement contractor, Woodvale, has been carrying out works on the site over the last few months to finish off the project.
A letter posted online from principal, Gerry McGill, provided details of some of the works completed to date.
This includes the central stairwell - which had been previously installed prior to Woodvale taking over construction - but it had to be replaced.
Woodvale have engaged with the fire officer and he is due to visit this week.
Meanwhile, repainting of the upper floors is now complete and the broadband and telephone lines have been connected.
Furniture and specialist equipment has also been delivered to the building.
Mr McGill said: "Woodvale and the Department of Education and Skills have set target dates for completion of the building.
"Again, I am reluctant to disclose definite dates as the dates are dependent on the continued progress of what has been detailed above.
"What I would say is that I am onsite a fair bit more to discuss various aspects of the building as it comes into use. Work is progressing extremely well.
"As soon as the building is handed over to us we will open it up to our students, parents and community to view."
