The second annual ‘Carlow Business Day’ was held on Wednesday October 9th 2024 and has been hailed by its many attendees as a resounding success.
Carlow Business Day 2024 was organised by a partnership of the Local Enterprise Office, Carlow Tourism, Network Ireland (Carlow),
Carlow Libraries, Carlow County Development Partnership, County Carlow Chamber, KCETB (Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board), Carlow College, Bagenalstown Chamber of Commerce Group, Carlow & Kilkenny Skillsnet and SETU.
The purpose of the day was to support business leaders and anyone with a passion for innovation and growth through a day long series of talks, workshops and networking
events which inspired and challenged attendees to grow or start innovative Carlow Businesses.
Carlow Business Day 2024 began with an energising Business Breakfast at Carlow College, featuring the renowned motivational speaker and mental health advocate, Enda O’Doherty.
His presentation, “I’m Fine! – Thoughts of Life, Addiction, Love, and Health,” was a powerful and moving exploration of the human experience. Drawing from his own life journey, Enda offered insights on resilience, overcoming addiction, building meaningful
relationships, and embracing holistic well-being.
Following the breakfast event, Enda extended his influence by visiting St Mary’s Academy CBS, where he conducted a workshop aimed at empowering young men to navigate life’s
challenges with strength and purpose.
Later in the morning the focus of Carlow Business Day shifted to those at the beginning of their business journey with "Start Up to Success - Pathways to Business Excellence".
This session, led by Noel Davidson, provided startup businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs with crucial insights into navigating the complex landscape of entrepreneurship, particularly in securing funding and making informed business decisions.
The final event of the Carlow Business Day supported those involved in or interested in the tourism industry. Held in the Seven Oaks Hotel, the event saw a networking
lunch followed by a presentation from Pól Ó Conghaile, Travel Editor of the Irish Independent, entitled “Tomorrow’s Tourism: Embracing Sustainability and Innovation”. Pól’s presentation offered insights into the future of the industry, with a focus on slow
tourism, sustainable practices, and the integration of technology. The discussion aligned closely with Carlow’s own tourism brand, "Wander Off the Track," making it particularly relevant for local businesses.
Speaking after Carlow Business Day 2024, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, Cllr. Fergal Browne said "I was delighted to see such a
vibrant atmosphere and strong turnout at Carlow Business Day. The event showcased the incredible talent, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit that our county has to offer. It was an excellent opportunity for businesses to network, learn from industry experts,
and explore potential partnerships. I commend all the partners for their hard work in putting together such a successful event.”
Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise with the Local Enterprise Office in Carlow County Council added “Carlow Business Day plays a pivotal
role in fostering a dynamic and supportive business environment in our county. Events like these are essential for connecting local entrepreneurs, showcasing their products and services, and facilitating knowledge exchange. By bringing together businesses
of all sizes, we create valuable opportunities for collaboration, networking, and growth. Such initiatives are instrumental in positioning Carlow as a thriving hub for innovation and economic development."
