Lidl Ireland, which has stores across Carlow, has issued a warning to its customers about a scam text message doing the rounds in the run up to Christmas.

The scam text messages are being sent to people, claiming to be from Lidl, and saying that the recipient has won a prize in a Christmas draw.

“Please be aware of a scam text message being sent around with our name on it,” a Lidl spokesperson said.

“It's not affiliated with us at all, and it may be harmful to your phone or charge you.

“Please do not open any texts that appear to have been sent by Lidl. As a company, we don't communicate any offers or information to customers via text, so anything received via text message is most definitely a scam.

“The only offers and competitions we run can be found on our verified  social media channels, our app and website. If you have any concerns regarding suspicious texts which claim to be sent from Lidl, please call our customer service team on 1800 201080.”
