A public meeting is taking place on Monday, May 13 in the Cathedral Parish Centre over a shortage of Autism school units in Carlow.
It has been called by the campaign group Open Your Doors - ASD Inclusion and the group claims there is only one school in Carlow Town that has an appropriate unit for Autistic children.
Speakers on the night are Linda Comerford from the campaign group Enough is Enough and Stephanie Hogan, herself a mother to a child with Autism and the spokeswoman for Open Your Doors - ASD Inclusion.
Stephanie said: "I would like to see children with Autism having the same opportunity as their peers and to be educated in local schools.
"Every day children leave their communities so they can receive an education that meets their needs.
"I am looking for change and I know special classes don't open up over night, they take time to plan. This is why we need action now so special classes can be provided sooner rather than later."
Linda added: "Children with Autism and speical educational needs must have an appropriate setting where their needs are being met.
"Somewhere were they will be supported by teachers qualified in the area of special education and somewhere that is in their community. Education is a right not a privillege and our children deserve the best."
The meeting will be chaired by Adrienne Wallace.
