Carlow family walk to go ahead for one year anniversary of death of popular woman

Zerafa’s Centra Ballon is organising a fundraiser family walk in memory of Andrea
One year on since losing such an important person, Centra shop in Carlow is hosting a fundraiser walk for two very important organisations.
Andrea Zerafa (Rooney) was from Laragh, Ballon in Carlow and she died peacefully, on July 29th, 2025 at the Oak Ward, University Hospital, Waterford.
She was surrounded by her heartbroken husband Stephen, children Ethan, Jonah and Winnie, her mother Heather, brothers' Dion and Peter.
Zerafa’s Centra Ballon is organising a fundraiser family walk in memory of Andrea to mark the one year anniversary of her death.
The Carlow store said: “It’s hard to believe but we are fast approaching a year since we lost Andrea.
“For some time now we've wanted to do something small to not only raise some much needed funds for Waterford Hospice and Eíst Carlow but to also reflect our gratitude to both services.
“Both of these wonderful organisations went above and beyond in terms of looking after Andrea during her sickness and its hugely important that their services continue to provide the same level of care to other people in Carlow and the South East if and when its needed”.
The store said that Andrea was a huge supporter of the Action Breast Cancer initiative and along with her Centra team, they organised many successful fundraising walks in Ballon over the years.
“It seems fitting to try to continue in the same path but to also do something a little bit unique just for her”.
The plan for the fundraiser walk is to meet at Zerafa’s Centra Ballon on August 1st at 10am,.
They will have a supervised and safe 5km Family Friendly Walk/Run around the area and loop back to the shop for refreshments and a raffle afterwards.
A GoFundMe has also been set up to raise funds and €1,964 has been raised so far.
