Carlow native Laura Gillespie won gold in the elimination race at the Track World Championships in Santiago, Chile overnight.
The 24-year-old fought off fierce competition in the race, with 24 cyclists taking to the track to battle for the world championship.
It was a battle between Gillespie and Britain's Katie Archibald for gold, however the Carlow woman proved triumphant with Archibald taking second place.

It's been an outstanding year for Gillespie as she was also crowned European champion in the same event in Belgium in February.
Not only is it a proud moment for Carlow but also Ireland, as this is just the third time an athlete flying the Irish flag has ever won a world championship in the event.
Gillespie was the first Irish athlete to win gold since Martin Irvine 13 years ago.
