Plás na Saoirse (Haddens's) Car Park in Carlow is now offering temporary free parking at certain times of the day, the June meeting of Carlow Municipal District heard.

At a previous meeting members requested a review of car parking arrangements to help businesses in Tullow Street, particularly Lower Tullow Street, during the disruption from the Water Main Rehabilitation and subsequent street resurfacing works.

It was proposed at the June meeting to allow free parking every day from 9.30am to 12 noon and from 3pm to 6.30pm in Plás na Saoirse (Hadden's) Car Park for the period June 18 to September 1.

Parking between 12 noon and 3pm will be at the normal rate and all other parking arrangements will remain as they are.

The objective of the motion was to attract motorists to park in Hadden's Car Park which is the main car park serving lower Tullow Street, the meeting heard.

The motion was proposed by Cllr Ken Murnane and seconded by Cllr John Cassin.
