RIP: Tributes paid to 'remarkable woman and legend' from Carlow following her passing

Maeve HANLEY (née McHugh) - Carlow Town, Carlow - Saturday 26th April 2025

Tributes have been paid following the passing of Maeve Hanley nee McHugh of St. Joseph’s Road, Carlow.

Maeve passed away peacefully in the gentle care of Hillview Nursing Home on April 26th 2025.

Sadly missed by her loving sons, sister Phyllis, daughters-in-law Michele and Sharon, grandchildren Alison, Andrew, Colin, Kevin and Clare, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her sister June.

Tributes have been paid in the condolences section of Rip.ie and read as follows: 

"Sincere condolences to the O'Donnell family on the sad passing of Betty. A remarkable woman and legend of our time, who will be forever held dearly in our hearts. May Betty now rest peacefully in her eternal reward."

Another reads:

"My sincere sympathies to Rosemary, Eilish, Jimmy, Niall, Ann, Una, John, Maura and the extended family on the passing of the legend that was Betty. My first memories of Betty are of calling to the GEM each week to collect NME & other pop magazines in the mid 60's. May you now rest in peace with Jimmy."

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing in R. Healy & Son Funeral Home Pollerton Castle, Carlow on Sunday (April 27th) from 3pm followed by removal at 5.30pm to the Cathedral of the Assumption to arrive for 6pm. Funeral Mass on Monday at 10am followed by private cremation.
