Tributes have come flooding in following the death of Catherine (Kitty) Hickey (née Dwyer) of Pairc Mhuire, Bagenalstown in Co Carlow

The much-loved lady passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, April 19. 

Pre-deceased by her son Michael, parents and brothers David and John, Kitty will be forever cherished and remembered. She is sadly missed by her beloved husband Dickie, sons Thomas and Ken, daughter Sharon, daughters-in-law Mary and Ann, son-in-law Christy, her 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and wide circle of friends.

Many took to RIP.ie to express their condolences to the Hickey and Dwyer families.

Management and staff of Coláiste Aindriú said, “We are deeply saddened to hear of Kitty’s passing. We remember her with great fondness for her years as an adult student, a wonderful supporter of our school and above all, as a true friend to us all. An absolute lady who will always hold a special place in our hearts. Sending our deepest condolences to Dickie, Ken, Ann, Thomas, Sharon, grandchildren Keith, Gráinne, Joseph, Kenneth and extended family. May Kitty’s gentle soul rest in peace.” 

A friend of the Carlow woman commented, “Sincere sympathies to Dickie and family in your great loss. Kitty was a wonderful lady, always so pleasant even in tough times of which she had her share. She dealt with difficult issues with great grace and dignity. She will be missed by all lucky enough to have known her. May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

While a third stated, “Sincere sympathy to the Hickey Family on the very sad passing of Kitty. I will miss her lovely smile and great sense of humour. She was gifted with her hands and her beautiful creations. May Kitty rest in peace.” 

The mother-of-four will repose at Cushen’s Funeral Home on Kilcarrig Street today, April 21, from 2pm to 7pm. Requiem Mass will take place at St Andrew’s Church, Bagenalstown on Wednesday, April 22 at 11am. This will be followed by burial in the Cemetery of the Assumption.

The house is to be strictly private on Wednesday morning.
