Carlow’s long wait for silverware came to an end in dramatic fashion at Croke Park two weekends ago, and these pictures capture a day supporters won’t soon forget.
Joe Murphy’s Carlow side produced a battling performance to see off Longford in an absorbing Division 4 final that had everything, goals, momentum swings and late drama.
It looked at one stage like Carlow had done enough in normal time, opening up a strong lead in the second half, but Longford refused to go away and forced the game into extra time.
Even then, the tension continued. The sides were level again at the break in extra time before Carlow found another gear in the closing stages.
Late scores, including big contributions from the bench, proved decisive as Carlow edged clear to seal a famous win in front of a packed Croke Park.
What followed was pure celebration as players, management and supporters soaked in a huge moment for Carlow football.
