With almost 90% of ballot boxes open in Carlow-Kilkenny, it looks like John McGuinness TD is favourite to top the poll.
Tallies indicate that the Kilkenny City based Fianna Fáil TD and Carlow's Jennifer Murnane O'Connor (also FF) are currently separated by just 1%.

The majority of the ballot boxes that await tallying are from Kilkenny areas, which should better benefit John McGuinness.
