General Election 2024 candidate for Carlow-Kilkenny, Independent Tom Healy, has released a statement following his elimination from the race earlier today.
"It has been a great honour to stand as an independent candidate in the 2024 General Election in the constituency of Carlow-Kilkenny," he said.
"As a voice for the voiceless I will continue my advocacy for the rights of children with special needs and the interests of the people of Carlow and Kilkenny."
Speaking about the general trends in General Election 2024, the Goresbridge-based economist stated that it appears at national level that 'the Irish people voted for continuity over any major shift in policy priorities'.
"This is a pity, in my view," he added. "However, we must entirely accept the will of the people. Perhaps, many people wanted change but saw continuity as the best of two undesirable outcomes?
"The next months should be an opportunity for parties and independents that will find themselves in opposition to consider their options, cooperate where they can and differ on where they must.
"I will continue to speak out and fact check on the major issues of the day from housing to healthcare to immigration and to the rights of the vulnerable."
