I take ginger shots every morning and have noticed these five health benefits

Ginger shots have been popping up in shops and screens quite often recently but have you ever wondered what they actually are and what they do?

It is basically what it says on the tin - a shot made of fresh, raw ginger, the juice of a citrus fruit, and some water.

Often there are other things such as turmeric or black pepper added for extra health benefits.

Ginger shots have been rising in popularity in recent months with claims that they are healthy being made and it turns out, it's true.

I've been taking them for over a year now and will likely continue to do so for the rest of my life.

Raw ginger is an anti-inflammatory root vegetable with a range of health benefits.

It aids digestion and reduces bloating while also boosting the immune system, thanks to a range of antioxidants.

One of the most notable benefits of ginger shots is that they curb that midday sugar craving.

Ginger is known to balance your insulin levels, which means your blood sugars are maintained at an even level rather than dropping or spiking.

It is when your blood sugar spikes that you are left looking for your next sugar hit or sweet treat.

Having balanced insulin levels then allows you to feel more energised throughout the day.

In terms of a boosted immune system, I can definitely recall a number of times that my family and friends had stuffy noses or sore throats and I was in full health.

I can't prove that this is down to the shots, but I also can't rule it out as an explanation.

Black pepper is often added to aid with the absorption of the ginger shots.

Turmeric is added as it is similar to ginger in that it helps to reduce inflammation and has a range of antioxidants, which can help to prevent cancer and slow down ageing.

Turmeric is also said to be excellent for joint health, helping to reduce pain for people suffering with arthritis or other joint conditions.

In terms of the citrus juice, it is recommended to use a fruit low in sugar such as lemons or limes as fruits such as oranges have a higher sugar content which is likely to reduce the insulin balancing properties of the ginger.

To make ginger shots you will need either a blender or a juicer.

Start by chopping your ginger, raw turmeric, and fruit.

Add it all to a blender or juicer and pass through a sieve before adding some black pepper and water.

Store in an airtight container, bottle, or flask in the fridge.

Another option is to freeze your ginger mix in an ice cube tray and add one to some boiling water to consume it as a tea.

It is recommended to take ginger shots first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and avoid eating for 20-30 minutes afterwards to allow it to work its way through your digestive system.
