GALLERY: Popular Carlow memorial run returns after two-year gap

A popular Carlow memorial run has returned after a two-year gap.

The 9th annual Charlie Curran Memorial Run took place yesterday (Sunday January 29) following virtual events over the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Funds raised during that time include the Irish Cancer Society, Down Syndrome Ireland and Éist Cancer Support, with Féileacáin and Debra Ireland benefitting this year.

The event - which was set up in 2015 in memory of Charlie Curran, who died suddenly in 2005 at the age of 52 - has raised just over €55,000 in total for multiple Irish charities.

Yesterday's run was described as "a super morning", with Patrick Kavanagh taking the fastest time for the men and Michelle Keenan coming first among female runners.

A Tayto sandwich stand was reportedly "a huge hit" once again, with yearly sponsors Dunnys Distribution and Tayto Snacks receiving a shout-out.
