Lidl has been granted planning permission to develop a new store in Carlow.

A planning application was lodged with Carlow County Council seeking permission to demolish the current store and build a new discount foodstore at Tullow Road in Carlow. The  retail area of the store will be expanded by around a third.

The new supermarket would be a part-single/part two-storey building with a retails sales area of 1,650sqm.

The German discount chain also sought permission to redevelop the existing site layout and car parking, with the pedestrian entrance also to be relocated.

However, owners of neighbouring properties outlined concerns and objections relating to traffic, noise, deliveries, lighting and waste.

As part of the conditions included with the grant of planning permission, Carlow County Council ordered that deliveries should not be allowed before 8am on Monday to Saturday, before 9am on Sunday, and not after 10pm on any day.
