Carlow council greenlights planning application for significant solar farm development

A planning application for a solar farm in Carlow has received approval.

Carlow County Council greenlit the development - located in Kilcarrig, Bagnelstown - this week (March 8, 2023) after a year of deliberation.

The solar farm will be developed on an area of approximately 14.16 hectares comprising photovoltaic panels on ground mounted frames, four single storey inverter/transformer stations, terminal stations, electrical switch room, storage container, security fencing, CCTV and all associated ancillary development works.

Elgin Energy Services Ltd. submitted the application in March 2022 with the view to secure planning permission for 10 years (and an operation period of 40 years).

The application was approved with a total of 24 conditions.
