Carlow is the only county in Ireland to miss out on €5,000 award for local sports clubs
Texaco Support for Sport is an annual initiative in which a sum of €130,000 is distributed in equal amounts of €5,000 to a sports club that successfully applied in each of the 26-counties.
The organisers of the initiative have announced that no eligible applications were received from Carlow this year, meaning no club in the county will receive this funding of €5,000.
In previous years, Carlow’s Bagenalstown Swimming Club and Bennekerry’s Palatine GAA Club each received the €5,000 award.
Bagenalstown Swimming Club used the money for a refurbishment project, while Palatine GAA Club used it to improve its walking track and carpark facilities.
The organisers ask that those applying for the award next year to check the rules governing entry ahead of submitting an application.

Details of the 2024 event will be published online this Autumn.
