The garda division of Kilkenny/Carlow is one of only three garda divisions in the country that currently has no designated Crime Prevention Officer.
This was confirmed in the Dáil on Monday following a question from Deputy Pauline Tully to the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee.
McEntee said that she is 'informed by the garda authorities that Cork North Division, Kilkenny/Carlow Division and Meath Division currently have vacant Crime Prevention Officer positions'.
"I am informed that it is a matter for the Divisional Officer in each location, engaging with the Garda National Community Engagement Bureau, to arrange recruitment competitions and ensure Crime Prevention Officer positions are filled," she added.
Crime Prevention Officers are trained personnel who encourage, promote and advise on crime prevention in both private and business communities.
