REVEALED: Small number of homeless people in Carlow refuse housing offers

TWO PEOPLE, in total, who are registered as homeless have refused social housing offers in Carlow.

In the first three months of 2023, eight people were registered as homeless according to Carlow County Council. Two of these refused social houses offered to them.

These figures, in comparison to last year, show that in addition, the amount of people who have no fixed abode in the county has risen by one.

In 2022, those who were offered accommodation by Carlow County Council accepted all offers, thus, no refusals were recorded.

In January 2022, four people accepted houses offered to them, in February, one person accepted and in March, the two individuals who were homeless accepted accommodation offers.

In comparison to this, out of the two people who were homeless in January 2023, one person refused an offer, in February, all three people accepted offers of houses made by the local authority and in March, three people with no fixed abode were offered but one refused.

No Personal details relating to any of the applicants was disclosed in response to a request which was submitted to the council under the Freedom of Information Act.

The request relates to the first quarter of this year, from January 1 to March 31.
