Carlow Little Theatre host their annual One-Act season in town with award-winning plays

Carlow Little Theatre Society is one of the oldest drama groups in Ireland. Formed in 1944, the group staged their first play in May 1945 'The Whip Hand'. Since then, every year Carlow Little Theatre has performed a One Act season and a full-length production.

Carlow Little Theatre's upcoming One-Act season in Carlow will run on Tuesday 17th October and Wednesday 18th October 2023 in the Milford Room located in the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow Town.

Following on from their success at Barnstorm theatre in Kilkenny, the group will perform three plays brimming with drama and laughter each night.

The night begins with 'Lox and Loaded', the winner of Carlow Little Theatre Society's 2023 International Playwrighting Competition. Written by William A. Smith and Andrew R. Looney and directed by Charles Houghton. 'Lox and Loaded' tells the story of two best friends, Bernie Bloomberg and Sol Rabinowicz who have operated their own hardware store in New York, for fifty years. It all comes apart after Bernie defaults on a loan from mobsters. Sol and Bernie end up in a witness protection program in Texas where they have some difficulty fitting in. The cast includes Rory Moran and Paddy Behan

Following a fifteen-minute interval, the second play 'Heiligenstadt' will begin. 'Heiligenstadt' is Carlow Little Theatre Society's entry into 2023 One-Act, All Ireland Circuit, where the play will feature in six festivals in Counties Kildare, Kilkenny, Donegal, Mayo, Cork and Dublin. Written by Mark Cradock and directed by Deirdre Fleming, the play is set in 1802, where Ludwig van Beethoven is still a young man and had yet to compose his great masterpieces. In a desperate attempt to resolve his personal life and musical career, he retreats to a small village outside Vienna - Heiligenstadt. There, he faces his inner demons and we witness the most pivotal moment of his life. The cast features Jamie Dockery, Zoë Hayden, John Jennings, Scott Cooper and Paul Dunne.

After another short interval, the third and final play 'Writer's Block', written and directed by Irene Donoghue will commence. 'Writer's Block' was the winner of 'Best Irish Play' in Carlow Little Theatre Society's 2023 International One-Act playwriting competition. The play revolves around Marty who is on a deadline and has writer's block. Featuring a cast of Geraldine Donoghue, Natalie Cassells and Garry McHugh.

Each of the plays runs for approximately thirty-five to forty-five minutes. Performances start at 7.30pm each night with tickets costing €15, including booking fee. The venue capacity is limited so early booking is advised and can be done online HERE
