St. Leo's College Carlow students were awarded for their anti-drug campaign
St. Leo's College Carlow students were awarded at the Garda Youth Awards which took place last weekend.
The students ran a campaign titled ‘The Thrill Can Kill’ where they spread the message to stay away from drugs. They used social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok which garnered significant attention and thousands of views.
Beginning this project, the young students first sought the support of their local Gardaí and the Carlow Regional Youth Service, and the expertise of Cuan Mhuire Addiction Services to help inform their campaign to change young people’s attitude to drug use.
Alongside their social media campaign, the group spread the message in classrooms that illegal drugs continue to have a detrimental impact on young people and the lasting effects.
The group of twenty-five St. Leo's students also created a short drama which they performed to more than four-hundred students across the South-East.
