'I’m delighted and proud that Carlow Little Theatre are bringing it home to Carlow'
Carlow Little Theatre Society are returning to the stage of the George Bernard Shaw theatre this November, with their upcoming full-length play. Sebastian Barry's 'The Steward of Christendom', is a profoundly moving story of family, love and loss.
Carlow Little Theatre Society is one of the oldest drama groups in Ireland. The group staged their first play in May 1945 and every year since they have performed both a One Act season and a full-length production.
The groups 2023 One-Act season garnered success in Carlow when they performed last month.
'The Steward of Christendom' is set in 1932 in the Baltinglass county home. Thomas Dunne, the last Chief Superintendent of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, looks back on his life as he tries to keep his ghosts at bay with reimagined memories of his children. It is a tale of family running concurrently with Irish history, spanning British colonial rule through to the early days of Irish independence.
Speaking on the production, Sebastian Barry said "I’m delighted and proud that the distinguished Carlow Little Theatre are tackling The Steward, and bringing it home to Carlow. I do wish them every success and happiness doing the play."
'The Steward of Christendom' will be Directed by Michael Somers and is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
Performances will take place in Carlow's George Bernard Shaw theatre between Wednesday 22nd November and Saturday 25th November.
