Local Councillor, 'I'm not racist but...'

At Carlow County Council's December meeting, Cllr Andy Gladney said, 'I'm not racist but the people of Bagenalstown are afraid of refugees coming to the town.'

Gladney raised the question if the former Presentation Convent is going to be used to house refugees

'The people want to know is the convent going to be used for refugees'

'There are kids going to school beside it'

The Queen of the Universe National School is located at Long Range, Muine Bheag, next door to the disused convent.

Later at the same meeting, Gladney said 'I want to propose that my Christmas party expenses be donated to UNICEF and all the work they are doing in Ukraine, Gaza and Israel.'
