ALERT: New weather warning issued for Kilkenny ahead of Christmas weekend

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for Carlow

Met Eireann have issued a status yellow wind warning for Carlow and every other county in Ireland.

The warning comes into effect at 12am on Thursday morning and will remain in place until 8pm on Thursday evening.

According to the forecaster, 'winds will be very strong at times'.

Potential impacts include debris and loose objects being displaced.

Difficult driving and cycling conditions are also expected.

FURTHER OUTLOOK

It looks set to be cloudy and breezy today (Wednesday) in Carlow with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

Mild, with highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds.

It will be windy tonight with further spells of rain and drizzle. Mild with lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds.

Over the next few days, it looks set to remain breezy, but also mild. See full breakdown below:

THURSDAY: Thursday will be a windy day (yellow weather warning from 12am to 8pm) with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Brighter, clearer conditions with scattered blustery showers will extend southwards from the north as the day goes on. Strong and gusty westerly winds and high waves along the northwest, west and southwest coasts will lead to wave overtopping at times. Highest afternoon temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Remaining breezy overnight with scattered showers continuing to feed in from the northwest. Rather mild with lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees, with fresh to strong westerly winds.

FRIDAY: Breezy again on Friday, with sunny spells and scattered showers, some of them possibly heavy. Afternoon highs ranging 8 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.

SATURDAY: A mostly cloudy day, with wet and windy conditions developing through the day. Again, rather mild with highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees, and moderate to fresh southwesterly breezes.
