RIP: Shock and sadness across Carlow after father of three dies suddenly at home

Tributes have poured in following the death of a Carlow man who was known and loved by many.

David Laffan was from Killoughternane, Borris in Carlow and formerly of New Ross, Co Wexford and he passed away unexpectedly at home with his family on Friday 13th February 2026.

David was the beloved husband of Leonora, loving and devoted father of Leila, Robert and Emily.

Predeceased by his infant brother Kevin and loving son to the late Pat.

Sadly missed by his mother Stella, sisters Amy, Joely, Molly and brothers Shane and Justin, parents-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and neighbours in a wonderful community.

A celebration of David’s life will take place on Wednesday February 18th, in the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome Crematorium, 2.30pm.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and cherished David, with one mourner writing,

"Shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. He always had such a warm welcome and was always ready with a helping hand. Sending my deepest condolences to Leonara, his children, and all the family at this very sad time. Rest in peace, Dave".

Another message said, "Totally shocked at the passing of Dave, he would do anything for you if you asked for help (including calling down after work to fix my heating for me) I am so glad we got to meet two months ago and I got one last big hug from him. Sincere condolences to Leonora, Leila, Robert, Emily and the rest of the Laffan family".

"So shocked and saddened to hear of David's sudden passing. I have many great memories of him and the laughs we all had on Pat Lyng's bus to college down in Waterford many years ago. RIP David, sincere condolences to all your family at this difficult time," another person said.
